August 2013

Well it has been a very hectic 5 months and we are so sorry for the lack of blogs! Our website was hacked and had to be closed down and re started again by our fantastic Web Designer. We have also been busy with the new addition to the family, Gabriel, who was born on 9th April. On top of this we have been secretly planning the trip of a lifetime for Cieran, so with all that its been a crazy time but we are back to business now.

On 13th August the whole family were flown out to Clearwater, Florida, thanks to Rooster PR and St.Pete/Clearwater, so Cieran could have his wish granted to swim with the incredible Winter the Dolphin. For those who haven’t seen it, the film Dolphin Tale is based on the true story of how Winter was trapped in a crab net and very badly injured her tail. She was rescued and rehabilitated by the team at Clearwater Marine Aquarium where sadly she lost her tail and two of her vertebrae. She has since been fitted with a prosthetic tail and has learnt to swim again. Since first sitting down to watch the amazing film about her, Cieran has seen himself as disabled the same as Winter. It has been his dream to meet her so for this to come true was in itself unbelievable, but for him to be allowed to swim with her was beyond our dreams. Besides her trainers and the actors from the film, Cieran is only the 2nd person to be allowed to swim with her.

Our trip to Clearwater was filled with wonderful adventures! We went to the beach and swam in the lovely warm sea, we went on the fantastic Captain Memo’s Pirate Cruise and played pirates for the day, we also revisited the Aquarium and met the other dolphins, Hope, Panama and Nicholas. The whole holiday went far too fast and we were very sad to come home, but the memories will stay with us forever. We can’t post any pictures as yet, but if you tune into BBC Breakfast between 7.40am and 8.40am on 30th August, you will see the video, of what I promise is a tearjerker and a very proud moment for us, seeing Cieran swim alongside his idol, wearing his custom made flippers that is only thanks to all the generous donations we have received. Without all your never ending support moments like these wouldn’t be possible.

The summer holidays seem to have flown as Cieran has spent two weeks before our big adventure at the HANFA Summer Club. He has been to adventure playgrounds, bowling and even went Kayaking for the first time which he loved.

We went down to the Birmingham Alexander Stadium in June for the Sainburys Summer Grand Prix, where Cieran did a lap of honour with some very inspirational children and also met David Weir and Jonnie Peacock.

We will keep you posted on many more of Cieran’s adventures.
